Las Vegas Skydiving and Other Extreme Sports

The number of extreme sports in Las Vegas, including skydiving has exploded in recent years. While they offer all of the standard extreme sports, skateboarding, BMX biking, and things like skydiving, they also have a chance to offer great sports like rock climbing, too, because of the nature of the area.

One extreme sport in Las Vegas is skateboarding. There are many skate parks in the area for enthusiasts of the sport to enjoy. Some of the parks are even open to other sports like roller blading and BMX biking. Moreover, several parks offer lessons to novice skateboarders that will help students to learn the sport effectively and be safe while playing.

Another way to experience extreme sports in Las Vegas is cycling in their canyons. Several companies offer a Red Rock Canyon bike tour that takes cyclists through one of the most beautiful locations in the United States. Most of the companies include all of the equipment necessary for the trip like the bike, safety gear, and water. While the trails are very, very rough, the ride is exhilarating.

Extreme sports in Las Vegas also includes some awesome rock climbing trips. The canyons in the area are incredible. Thirty minutes from the insanity of the strip with all of its overburdening society features are rock climbing areas that are unimaginably beautiful. Climbers can experience simply nature hikes or rough and tumble climbs that are difficult for even experienced climbers.

If climbing in the heat of the desert is not for you, you might also try the extreme sport of indoor rock climbing. There are several places in the city that offer rock walls. It's a great way to try rock climbing before you get to more difficult stuff like the canyons outside the city.

Another version of extreme sports in Las Vegas is skydiving. There are many companies in the city that offer serious lessons and one day deals like tandem jumping. This gives people at all levels a chance to experience this extreme sport while in city of lights. You can also experience indoor skydiving with the help of one of several wind tunnels in the city. Nevada is an excellent place for a number of different activities. Las Vegas skydiving is becoming one of the most popular among other extreme sports.

Sports Apparel, More Than Image Projection

Players and other sports enthusiasts do not just don their sports gears just for the heck of showing the world a sports image. They spend money on these often expensive stuff not because of the image that these things will project but because of the safety that will be provided. Sports gears and sports apparel are essential in not only in improving the game performance but also in ensuring the safety and soundness of our body.

In fact, many sports apparel go through ergonomic research, designed to withstand pressure and at the same time help players in their game. For instance, sports staples such as rubber shoes have evolved from being made from ordinary shoes with a rubber soles to shoes that have all kinds of features from air tight soles to soft padding on the sides for maximum support. Some rubber shoes are especially designed for a particular sports. You will probably notice that there are tennis shoes, there are golf shoes and baseball shoes.

One of the basic ones is of course the basketball shoes, which is probably the closest you can get to a rubber shoes. In fact, this kind of rubber shoes is also used in other kinds of sports such as volleyball. Rubber shoes for basketball must be of course, comfortable and must adhere to the floor. Remember, floors of basketball courts can be really slippery especially when wet with sweat.

Another kind of shoe is the golf shoes, which is designed for the grassy fields of golf courses. These rubber shoes have rubber spikes on its soles to make it more adherent to the soft soil. Tennis shoes can be really tricky since there are different kinds of tennis courts— clay, grass or just plain cement, which are often found in clubhouses and sports complex.

Some sports shirts also have extra padding on the shoulders and on the ribs for protection especially when used with sports that involve body contact and tackling such as soccer and baseball. Another must have sports apparel is the knee and elbow pads, which protect body parts from injury and abrasions.

Even simple sports gears such as bags have evolved into a one-bag-fits-everything. Manufactured to hold every little sports knick knack that you can think of, sports bags now have inside pockets, side pockets, mobile phone pockets and all kinds of pockets that are geared for your convenience. There are even sports bags whose compartments can be adjusted depending on the size and bulk of the sports gears that you have to carry.

The Sport of Archery in the Olympic Games

Archery was not a sports event in the first ancient Olympic Games in Greece. However, the games were held for over 1,000 years, so it's entirely possible that at some time archery was an Olympic sport in the past.

Archery for men was an event for the first time in the modern Olympics in 1900. The first archery event for women was in 1904. However, there was no uniformity in the rules in those early Olympics and archery was dropped as an event after 1920. The international governing body for archery, the Federation Internationale de Tira l'Arc (FITA), was founded in 1931. It took many years before all countries accepted the new international rules for competition, but archery was able to return as an Olympic sport to the 1972 Munich Games. In 1988, team competitions were held in addition to the individual events.

Since 1992, the event format is head-to-head competition for the top 64 athletes. There are four archery events: Men's Individual, Women's Individual, Men's Team and Women's Team.

Individual competitors (men and women) shoot 72 arrows at a 'bulls-eye' target from a distance of 70 meters (229 feet, 8 inches). Each shot must be made within a 40-second time limit. A perfect score would be 720. A 'sudden death' overtime shot is made in the event of a tie.

Team competitions consist of 16 3-archer teams. As in the individual events, each archer shoots 72 arrows are shot at a distance of 70 meters. In a tie score, each team member will shoot one arrow. The arrow closest to the center of the target determines the winner.

The target has ten rings. One point is scored for an arrow landing in the outermost ring, 2 points for a hit in the next ring, continuing in this manner to the center ring which awards 10 points.

The recurve bow is used by Olympic Archers. An arrow shot by this bow travels at more than 150 mph. The bows are very 'high-tech', manufactured from wood, fiberglass and graphite. They have stabilizers which help keep the arrow flights straight and sights to help in aiming. The strings are made from a hydrocarbon product or from Kevlar. The arrows are aluminum or carbon graphite. The cost of this gear is over $1,000.

An Olympic archer has normally been training for at least ten years. It's essential to develop perfect form (or as close to perfect as humanly possible). A good coach is also very important. The proper equipment, of course, is needed. Fortunately, archery is much less expensive to pursue than many other sports. Read, study, talk to other archers. Attend and compete in local and national tournaments. Most important, practice, practice, practice.

Archery is a sport accessible to many disabled athletes. A New Zealand woman, Neroli Fairhall, was the first paraplegic to compete in the Olympic Games. She was a gold medalist in the Commonwealth Games. This is also a sport that people can continue with for much of their lives and enjoy with their families. Hope to see you at the Olympics!

The Nike Edge in Sports Apparel

Sports apparel from Nike seems to be the most popular around. They provide not only fashionable apparel choices but also garments designed to provide comfort and fit all the time. But the most popular of Nike's line of sports apparel are the shoes, particularly used in running.

Apart from shoes Nike also offers a selection of comfortable quality sports apparel. There are sports training apparel available that always ensure quality performance and comfort even at the most demanding conditions. Most shirts and upper training apparel from Nike features the Dri-FIT which is a high performance micro-fiber polyester fabric which offers ultimate comfort to the wearer by pulling perspiration away from the body from the body and directs it to the outer fabric surface where it evaporates and maintains the dry and cool effect of the wearer. Sports apparel made of this fabric will be the only garment that you will need on hot days and can be used as the primary garment layer during cold days.

Nike running shoes have become popular because it is the favored exercise program being followed by most people. Running has provided both excellent exercise and stress relief for most people. In order to get the most out of the sport in terms of fitness and comfort, it’s important to have the right running gear that Nike can provide. Most of its shoes employ much technology and research into its manufacture.

A typical pair of Nike shoes can help minimize the brutal forces of every downward impact during running that can wreak some damage to the feet. Nike has instituted an innovative cushioning system specially designed to cushion and provide maximum impact protection while running.

Having the proper running gear should include everything from the right running shoes that you use down to the running apparel that you wear. Most important is that you find the right running shoe that will be able to provide you with the maximum impact protection. Comfort as well as fit also will need to be considered. Different shoes are required with different kinds foot shapes.

You would require different comfort if you have normal, low or high arches. For normal arches, you can look for running shoes that provide stability as well as good cushioning. Runners with low arches would require you to look for motion control shoes that have firm mid-soles to offer greater stability. For those with high arches, they should opt for shoes that offer plenty of cushioning.

Sports Clothes and Girls

When women started entering the world of sports, they had to deal with a lot of prejudice. The then male dominated sports industry scoffed at the idea that women would be competing in various manly sports. They believe that the place of women were in the home and not in the track and field or diamond field. Well, nowadays you won't even think that women are incapable of competing in such "manly sports". Women today have shown as capable of dominating sports like track and field, tennis, basketball, etc.

But with due to the increasing number of women athletes, clothing manufacturers and sports experts have begun developing the right clothing for them. Women athletes have some specific needs that need to be addressed in order for them to compete properly in some sporting events. Researchers have come up with high-tech performance fabrics that help create sports apparel that are both comfortable and function for the women athlete.

A lot of sports stores today offer a complete line of women and girls sports apparel. You can find for example, sports bras made of spandex materials that feature high necklines which provide full coverage and maximum support. Designers have thought of incorporating arched seams and used the right combination of hook-and-eye closures to provide an extremely strong hold. Some sports bras also have wide elastic panels to keep the bra in place.

Aside from the serious women athletes, a lot of women out there enter sports just to have fun or just to stay fit. There are already a lot of women sportswear stores that cater to the needs of this group of women.

If you go to your nearest department store or sports clothing shop, it is almost certain that you'll find a number of sports fashion line that mixes together unique fabrics and the newest and hottest fashion designs. Fashion designers for years have been into designing sports clothing. They have created sportswear for the various types of women sport activities. These include aerobics, fitness activities, running, yoga, golf and tennis. The main premise that fashion designers try to uphold is for women enjoy a good work out while looking attractive and feeling sexy.

This only proves that sports shops should not limit their target market to professional women athletes. They have a wide market base of women who are simply into sports just for the heck of it. And these women are more than willing to spend to get the appropriate clothing. Sports clothing stores should also offer simple women sportswear like shirts, pants, shorts, as well as various accessories in a myriad of colors and designs.

Sports Apparel for College Students

Apparel for college sports has become more and more sophisticated. No longer does one rely on just plain sports apparel, there are also other more technologically advanced sportswear that provides better fit and more comfort for the wearer.

A wide selection of different fabrics is now available and used in a number of apparel for college sports that make use of current technology to enable the wearer to excel more and enhance performance by taking out the uncomfortability out of the equation. Comfort is everything when it comes to sports on the college level. New technologies have made it possible for a new generation of college sports apparel to be made available in the sports apparel market that anyone can check out.

There is a huge market for college sports apparel that allows more fabric breathability to the wearer. It is an accepted fact that the human body needs to perspire in order to maintain a highly efficient heating system. Our body needs to sweat in order to regulate the right body temperature for any type of performance. But if this perspiration is not allowed to dry, it can build up and chill the body from inside the clothing aside from experiencing that uncomfortable wet feeling.

The breathability of a fabric in any college sports apparel is an important factor in protection and comfortability. New fabric design technology has allowed sports apparel manufacturers to develop sportswear that allows air to ventilate effectively in and out of the fabric that allows accumulated perspiration to evaporate faster. Some fabrics also help keep out the perspiration on the outside by providing a special shield that help keep out moisture to ensure a dry feeling even after long periods of exertion.

There is also a number of special college sports apparel that offer different types of water permeability properties for use in a variety of conditions. There are sports apparel choices that can effectively make every wearer feel comfortable and dry especially in rainy conditions. There are waterproofed as well as water resistant apparel now available.

The main difference between waterproof and water-resistant fabrics in sports apparel is based on duration. Waterproof sports garments are chemically treated in order to resist all water which make them handy as outerwear. Water-resistant and repellent garments on the other hand only encourage water to bead on the surface, but may likely become saturated when set on wet conditions for long periods of time. They may look like ordinary garments, but college sports apparel today are not like what they were then on closer look.

Storing Your Winter Sports Apparel

Winter sports can be fun to do especially when you get to do it only once a year… unless of course if you live in Aspen or other places where there are snow all year round. If you live in a place where snow is not as constant, it is good to invest in sports apparel that will last you a lifetime and those that you can keep for a long time.

Below are some tips on how to take care of your winter sports apparel so that you can use them again for the next winter season.

Store it properly

Winter sports apparel can be bulky. In addition to the paddings, which are fairly common in sports apparel, winter sports gears should also be thick and padded to protect the person from the extremely cold temperature. This makes winter sports apparel hard to store. Where can you put such bulky items? If they still have space in their closets, they often put these items folded up there in hibernation.

If the space is not enough, some people just put them in a box and store them in an attic or bodega. One thing that you can do is to buy vacuum bags. With the use of vacuum cleaners, you can suck the air up and lessen their sizes, even the padding. That way, you can stack them up even in a smaller space.

Clean them up.

Before putting them to sleep for the next year, make sure that you have cleaned them. Never put them in storage without first washing them. Dirt and grime, even in little quantities, can ruin the cloth. Stains will also be harder to wash away if it has been there for a year. Besides, insects are more attracted to clothes that are not clean. They might also ruin your sports gears.

Cool and dry

Make sure that the place where you are storing your winter sports apparel is cool and dry. Too much heat can ruin the fabric and affect the padding of the sports gears. Moisture can also seep through and damage the apparel. If they get wet somehow, they will surely smell bad.

Fold them right

Another important thing to remember in storing your winter sports equipment is to fold them correctly. Make sure that the paddings are not crushed. Storing it for a year in this way can completely ruin the shape of the winter apparel.

Sport Fishing in Nassau Bahamas

For deep sea fishing enthusiasts, Nassau offers one of the best fishing holidays in the world. There are so many species of fish known around the beautiful island. This is deep sea fishing at it's best. Species likely to be caught on a deep sea fishing trip would include Shark, Barracuda, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Mackerel, Yellow Fin Tuna and many other dwellers in the unknown deep.

Yellow Fin Tuna start arriving off the North and West sides of Nassau during late February, early March and their migration through the Bahamas continues until late August. This is hottest big-game fishing time. Massive schools of Yellow Fin Tuna ranging in size from 20 to 80 lbs. migrate through the Bahamas on their way north to the Gulf Stream. They are located by looking for excited birds congregating, then diving into the ocean, feeding off the bait fish forced to the surface by the schools of feeding Tuna.

The spring and summer run of Yellow Fin Tuna. Pound for pound, they are some of the hardest fighters that swim the ocean. Indeed, Yellow Fin Tuna are true heavy weights bursting with severe strength. They are a tough fighting fish with a fast recovery rate and will fight you until they are boated. They will mix deep dives with long, fast runs to test both you and your tackle. Let's not forget the plentiful Black Fin and the Skipjack Tuna. Although they are the feeders for all the big game fish, catching 5 to 20 pounders on light tackle is sheer luck..

When you go sport fishing for big game in Nassau, each fishing day is different. You never really know what will strike your baits when you go deep-sea fishing. The ocean is just one difficult body of water to predict and the occupants in it are just the same. Nassau is a fishing heaven.

And we have added card playing, chess tournaments and even the Reno Air Races. But why do Americans love sports so much? Well it is not just Americans who love sports it is the human race, which loves competition. The Aztec, Romans and Greeks loved their sports too. Humans like competition and so it is an innate characteristic of our species. Even our nearest neighboring species of carbon based bi-peds the great apes and chimpanzees seem to enjoy playful competition and definitely competition for the position of the Alpha Male which appears to be innate as well. We watch our pets at home, we see dogs compete for a toy or bone, we see cats stock each other and play and if you watch the similarities of children even at very early ages in sand boxes you will see the same thing.

Perhaps it is these tendencies, which drew you towards sports as a kid. And now as an adult you too love to watch the competition, for fear that getting involved in to much competition above and beyond a little friendly game might get you injured, but still to this day you are drawn to the competition. We all are and it is a good thing, as if you were not drawn to sports it might be because you were no longer alive and many feel if they did not have sports in their life that they may as well be dead. Interesting insights. Think on this.

Let the Games Begin - Taking Your Sporting Passion Online

Sports fans just may be the most loyal, enthusiastic, and excitable fans around. It does not take much for a football fan to start talking about their favorite team, a hockey fan to recount the best play of the year, or a baseball fan to rant about an upcoming season. And if it is a basketball fan, don't even get them started on March Madness!

Come March, you can bet that everyone who follows college basketball is scouring the media to find out as much as they can about the twenty-day tournament that is also called "The Big Dance." The fanatic groupies are devouring all the information they can--from the players' stats, the hottest team gossip, and who, at the moment, is expected to take home the trophy--and even the mild enthusiasts are hungry for the latest news on the championship teams.

To get the full scoop, these fans will undoubtedly turn to a sports website. Designed for the hardcore followers and the casual observers, a sports website can be as specific or as general as you want it to be. For example, a basketball website may have a special section on March Madness that includes:

* interaction with sports fans around the world through a blog, forums, chats, and messaging

* up-to-date bios of the March Madness stars

* photos of the most heated moments in the tournaments

* histories of the teams

* a schedule of televised games

* March Madness trivia

* stats

One of the best things about a top-notch sports website is that fans can access it before, during, and after different games to get the latest breaking news. Do you have a rival team? Log on and find out what others are saying about them. Curious about a certain player's strategy? Subscribe to a blog through a website and find out what another aficionado thinks. Really, a sports website is the most efficient way to share, swap, and celebrate sports information - all within the comfort of your own home. Best of all, you're your own announcer, so your team is always the home team.

Sports fans deserve a website that is as stimulating as they are, especially during the seasons' wildest and craziest events such as March Madness, the Superbowl, the Kentucky Derby, and the World Series (to name just a few). A well-crafted and entertaining website is just what they need to stoke their fire and keep the heat on.

Many sports websites today focus on just one team or a single sport. Certainly, this is a great way to gather a tight-knit, excited group that will be eager to share even the tiniest tidbit of related trivia. But, a website can also be all-encompassing and cover sports of all kinds. In this way, a wider variety of fans will interact with each other.

So, if you would like to have a hand in establishing a virtual athletic community, consider putting up a sports website. Before you know it, your site could have a following that rivals the NCAA, and logging on to it may become a national pastime in its own right.

Know your Man: Sports

“It is great to be a guy because there's always a game on somewhere.” ~ Anon

“I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.” ~ Earl Warren

Watching sports calms the nerves and grounds many a man. It is even important to realize it even when he “watches” sports during sex. It helps him concentrate so much that it makes it unnecessary for them to fantasize. Therefore, take notice that when there is some game on TV and you are having sex, he is really thinking about you, and not another gorgeous sexy woman.

By the way, when he is watching a game and you have something important to tell him, wait until the commercials. He will pay attention to you then.

Men also like to practice sports with their buddies. They need to bond as well, and playing sports is one of the best activities for such connection. You don’t see them talking about their relationships or embracing each other. They do sports.

Men have a distinctive way of communication that makes no sense to women but means a lot to them. How do the commercials on TV show male bonding? Mostly through sports, what else? Also, sports provide them with psychological tools to dealing with competition. They are cathartic.

A great story for you: “Mourners arriving at a Pennsylvania funeral home found their recently deceased friend, a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, propped up in his favorite armchair in black and gold pajamas, a Steelers blanket on his lap, a beer and a pack of cigarettes at his side, while a high- definition TV played a continuous loop of Steelers highlights. Smith’s friends and relatives agreed it was a perfect tribute. One of them said: ‘It was just like he was at home.’” The Week, July 22, p. 6.

A Word of Advice:

Ladies: Seems like is better to have a game on during lovemaking. This is probably the only time we won’t have competition with other belles. Also, bless the men who go out and practice sports with his buddies: he will come home refreshed, and that is good.

Gents: Your spouse knew you liked to watch sports on TV. Do not change your pleasures to avoid nagging. Have patience when she sits down with you to watch sports, she must be interested to learn about the game. Tell her politely to ask about the rules during commercials. Stick to having your friends over. It is a good compromise to invite your friends’ spouses to come over as well, so the women will do their talking somewhere else and will not disturb you, Gents.

Public Relations Sports Endorsements Gone Bad

Many corporations will endorse sports figures or celebrities to promote their products and services and it makes sense because so often these people are indeed looked up to by others and they will influence buying decisions, fashion and society to a large degree. But what happens when a sports endorsement goes bad? What happens when your athlete has been caught with a hooker, tested positive for steroids or committed a crime?

Then what do you do? Well sometimes you do nothing and simply pull the ads off Television, sometimes you can the athlete and sometimes you make a public statement that you do not condone that activity and this irresponsible behavior is not what we stand for and sack the quarterbacks endorsement big time.

There are so many examples of public relations sports endorsement disasters and then there are super successes with athletes such as; Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong, Wayne Gretzky, Joe Namath and Magic Johnson. Millions of dollars of products have been sold at very high prices by such companies as Nike, Adidas, L.A. Gear, Wilson sporting goods and Reebok using high-profile athletes and endorsement strategies.

Often when endorsements go bad it can be a public relations short-term nightmare. Other times if the company is quick to act and ax the endorsement; they can put out press releases making them selves look good because they don't stand for that kind of crap. Often they make more money for canning and athlete due to their behavior than they did for endorsing them in the first place. Because as they say in public relations and advertising; all news is good news. Please consider this in 2006.

Reasons For Sports Betting Online

Maybe you have a friend that does it, or perhaps you've simply read about it. Sports betting online is becoming increasingly popular, and there are a lot of reasons why people choose to engage in this activity.

For some folks, it's a money-making endeavor. By carefully researching the statistics and staying current on sporting news, they're in a position to make calculated wagers on sporting events that lead to a big payoff when they win. Many sports betting enthusiasts believe that wagering on sporting games offers better odds than other types of gambling, such as poker, slot machines or Roulette.

Sports betting online is also a lot of fun, particularly if you're already a sports fan. Many people find it enjoyable to research a football team or quarterback. Others just enjoy an opportunity to place bets on things like a tennis tournament outcome. Like any type of gambling, sports betting can be an enjoyable hobby.

It is also a way to become more involved or engaged in a favorite sport, a favorite team or a favorite player. Since research is a very important part of sports betting, true fans can feel closer to their favorite baseball pitcher, for example, as they research the player's stats and current situation. And as the event is occurring, fans feel even more engaged in the game when they know they have money riding on the outcome.

Another reason for sports betting online is because it's convenient. Gone are the days when you have to visit your bookie in person or go to the racetrack yourself. Now you can simply log on to a convenient website to place a bet and see the outcome of almost any sporting event. Many times the bets are placed "live," either before or during the game, making it extremely convenient for folks to make wagers from the comfort of their own home.

14 Miami (FLA.) vs 20 Florida
Peach Bowl
SG’s Pick: Florida
If Chris Leak (Gators) isn’t the best QB in the land he will be. When the Gators are operating on all cylinders I would pick them to beat anyone in the country. Keep an eye on this one because it should be a money maker!
7:30 pm

Sat., Jan. 1
Cotton Bowl
15 Tennessee vs 22 Texas A&M
SG’s Pick: Tennessee
The Vols simply ran out of time in the SEC championship. I suspect they will pick up where they left off. Neither team “should” be here so it will definitely be one of the better games to watch.
11:00 am

Outback Bowl
16 Wisconsin va 8 Georgia
SG’s Pick: Georgia
Wisconsin can play offense buy GA’s fast defense will stop the run and force Wisconsin to throw resulting in too many mistakes to overcome. Georgia wins.
11:00 am

Gator Bowl
17 Florida State va West Virginia
SG’s Pick: Florida State
Florida State has put the lost to Florida behind them. Bowden’s ability to dominate bowl games has a “W” written all over it.
12:30 pm

Capital One Bowl
11 Iowa vs 12 LSU
SG’s Pick: LSU (restrictions apply...)
LSU is young but managed to fight their way to a good bowl game this year. If LSU’s defense can keep the score close they can pull this one off.
1:00 pm

Rose Bowl
13 Michigan vs 6 Texas
SG’s Pick: Texas
If Mack can persuade his players they’re as good as he did the nations coaches Texas will overcome a solid Michigan team.
4:30 pm

Fiesta Bowl
5 Utah vs 19 Pittsburgh
SG’s Pick: Utah
Pittsburgh slipped through the back door to win the Big East but I’m afraid Utah will show Pitt what it’s like to play with the Big Boys.
8:30 pm

Mon., Jan. 3
Sugar Bowl
3 Auburn vs 9 Virginia Tech
SG’s Pick: Auburn
Auburn should be playing for the national title. Look for Auburn to win big for the slight possibility of sharing the title.
8:00 pm

Tue., Jan. 4
Orange Bowl
1 Southern California vs 2 Oklahoma
SG’s Pick: Oklahoma
This one should come down to the last quarter. Oklahoma should prevail with stamina.

A Look At UK Soccer

The FA Premier League Partnership, also known as UK soccer, was first founded in 1992 and is a league that is reserved for the top UK soccer clubs in the English system. This distinction makes it England’s primary soccer competition. Each year, 20 teams compete for the league championship but, oddly enough, only four teams have been crowned. Why? Because these four teams have dominated UK soccer since it’s inception. These include Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea and Manchester United. Of these four UK soccer clubs, Manchester United has been the most successful after having won the championship title on eight occasions. The current league champions are Chelsea, who clinched their second consecutive title during the 2005-06 season.

The sport of UK soccer hasn’t always been as popular as it is today. In fact, the 1980s marked a particularly low point for the sport. Stadiums were crumbling, which left spectators facing poor facilities. As attendance dropped and conditions worsened, UK soccer was banned from European competition. By the time the 1990s rolled around, things were beginning to change and the ban formerly preventing English teams from competing was lifted.

At the conclusion of the 1991 season, a proposal for a new league was presented and was one that would bring additional revenue into the sport. The Founder Members Agreement, which was signed in July 1991, established the basic foundation for the FA Premier League. The new division was given a license to negotiate broadcast and sponsorship agreements, which was a necessary part of successful competition. In 1992, the FA Premier League was formed as a limited company and operated out of an office at the former headquarters of the Football Association.

The 1992-93 season marked the first of many competitions for the new face of UK soccer. Due to the rules governed by the FIFA, the number of teams was reduced to twenty in 1995. Today, the FA Premier League is a corporation that is owned by the 20 member clubs of UK soccer. Each team is considered to be a shareholder and has the opportunity to vote on important issues, including rule changes and contracts. Each team has the power to elect a Chairman, Chief Executive and Board of Directors to oversee their day-to-day activities. The Football Association is not directly involved with these operations, but it does have veto power during team elections.

Today, a typical UK soccer season consists of 20 teams competing against one another on two separate occasions. One half of the season is dedicated to home games and the second half, which repeats the same schedule as the first, entails each team playing their competitors for a second time at a different location. For instance, the first half of a season may be comprised of home games and the second half would be played on the competitors home turf. At the conclusion of each season, the champions are named according to points awarded throughout the season. If a tie occurs, a one match playoff is held to determine which top four teams will qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

For additional information on the FA Premier League and/or UK soccer, fans may visit their official website at http://www.premierleague.com. Current standings, news, updates, photos, historical profiles and league news is available online. A professional design with colorful appeal make this a very popular website among UK soccer fans. Soccer, itself, remains a popular sport throughout the world and is celebrated in many different countries. With legions of fans worldwide, it appears that soccer players will be kicking high for many years to come.

Free Basketball Picks 4/1/06

Best: Heat @ Cavaliers: The Sporting News came out with an edition last month claiming the LeBron v. Wade is the next big rivalry. Well, it’s time to find out. Carmelo’s team is always done better than LeBron and shouldn’t be overlooked as often as he is. But Wade and LeBron’s statistics are more impressive. Predicted Score: Cleveland wins 100-98 in a close one.

Runner-up: Celtics @ Bulls: Boston has to make up a good hand of games to catch Phili for the #8 spot, and a loss here to the #9 Bulls would hurt big time. Chicago can’t afford to lose either if they’re to catch the 76ers. The loser is probably the #10 team in the East and will have trouble staying in the race. Predicted Score: Chicago wins 96-92 on the backs of their home field advantage.

Blowout: Wizards @ Spurs: Washington is human compared to the Spurs. With Larry Hughes gone, the Wizards have nobody who drives to the basket. In complete contrast is the Spurs, where both Parker and Duncan are in the top 10 in Points in the Paint. The Wizards shoot too many jump shots to have a serious chance at victory. Predicted Score: San Antonio wins 96-83 in blowout fashion.

Free Basketball Picks 3/27/06

Monday 3/27/06 Basketball Picks

Best: Hornets @ Jazz: Here it is, Utah’s last chance to push into the playoffs. The Hornets are playing back-to-backs against significant opponents, which should make them tired. Utah absolutely has to win. If they lose here you can eliminate them from postseason contention. Predicted Score: Utah wins 94-91

Runner-up: Pacers @ Heat: For whatever reason, Indiana has absolutely owned the Heat over the past couple years. Each time has that when fluke team that happens to beat them, like how the Jazz won twice against the Pistons. In the Kobe-Shaq days, the Lakers lost 11 of 14 games versus the Sonics. Can Miami break the streak? If not, their loss will be in the news the next day. Predicted Score: Miami wins 94-88

Blowout: Wizards @ Warriors: Golden State has really self-destructed. The injury to Baron Davis certainly hurt, but they had their chances to win close games and didn’t fulfill them. Gilbert Arenas has been fantastic in clutch and is in the top 5 in 4th quarter scoring. The Wizards have no problem scoring 100, and neither did the Warriors. Without Baron though, 90 is an accomplishment. Predicted Score: Washington wins 103-88 in a complete utter blowout.

How Sports Entertainment Is Hurting Wrestling

Watching TNA iMPACT! this week I was reminded of a comment that former WWE wrestler Lance Storm made several months ago. Storm opined that there is a difference between wrestling angles and storylines. Storm's comment was in reference to something that WWE was doing at the time, but it applies to all wrestling promotions.

Storylines vs. Angles

The concept is actually quite simple. A storyline is a series of events that occurs between two or more characters over the course of several shows. A wrestling angle on the other hand builds directly to a climax in the wrestling ring.

The difference may seem very minor, but it comes hugely significant when you see how both WWE and TNA have approached their storylines recently.

Both companies are guilty of running storylines in the last few months which cannot ever result in a real wrestling match. The most obvious example right now would be TNA's use of Earl Hebner in a storyline where he is feuding with Larry Zbyszko and Slick Johnson. None of the three participants in this story are active wrestlers so there is no possibility of a satisfactory conclusion to the angle.

Sports Entertainment

The problem stems I think from the re-definition of wrestling in to Sports Entertainment, an action triggered by Vince McMahon and his then World Wrestling Federation. McMahon has gone to great lengths to differentiate the product he presents from old-fashioned wrestling federations.

As the dominant force in the wrestling industry, WWE's re-branding has had inevitable knock-on effect on every other wrestling promotion. In order to compete with WWE's populist approach to the sport, their competitors have been forced to adopt some of the same elements that seem to have made WWE so successful.

With no one left trying to pull things back to a more traditional sports event based format, the result had been a continual slide further towards televised drama and away from presenting wrestling matches.

Soap Opera For Men

Over the last decade this situation has reached some sort of tipping point where the whole focus of the shows has changed. Less and less matches are presented as more and more time is spent presenting us with a "soap opera for men".

The result is that less and less time is spent on wrestling angles (in fact many of the matches we do get seem more like a backdrop to the storyline rather than the exclamation point). That lack of attention on the core product (call it whatever you want, but it's a wrestling show) has its costs.

Many reviewers have pointed out the lack of sizzle (for want of a better term) for recent WWE and TNA PPVs. Even when the announced matches seem like they ought to be a big deal, the presentation of them just doesn't bring that home.

When the final show down between two wrestlers is no longer the climax of weeks of booking, but rather just a short pause before they go back to exchanging witty repartee, why would anyone pay to actually watch that match?

September's UK Horse Racing Action

Punters are in for a busy time of it in September as the Flat racing season moves swiftly into its autumn phase starting with the William Hill Sprint Cup, a Group1 contest over six furlongs at Haydock on Saturday September 2.

Class has traditionally been the defining factor in this well-contested sprint course and it’s therefore no surprise to see horses that have run well in the Group1 July Cup featuring again over the sharp six furlongs at the Lancashire course.

Weather permitting, the imperious Iffaaj should take all the beating if he turns out at the Lancashire course after an unlucky second to Les Arcs in the July Cup. Arguably the best sprinter in Europe right now, the Godolphin-trained colt won’t want the ground too soft if he’s to turn out at the Lancashire course.

In his absence the Jeremy Noseda-trained Soldier’s Tale would hold strong claims. He is less ground dependent than Iffraaj and after a lengthy absence his connections are hopeful that she can return to the fray in winning form at Haydock Park. Nunthorpe hero Reverence is another to consider if he can harness his sublime talents to the longer trip.

If it’s September then racing’s rolling caravan must be in Yorkshire for the St Leger, the world’s oldest classic which normally takes place at Doncaster. This time around the latter venue is being thankfully re-built at enormous cost and as a consequence the Leger meeting has been shoe-horned into two days at York - September 8 and 9 - instead of the usual four days.

This is no bad thing given the dodgy state of the ground on the Knavesmire and it will be relief when racing returns at Doncaster for 2008. Staged over a mile and six furlongs, the St Leger calls for stamina, courage and class in a prospective winner. A select field of eight or nine are likely to go to post and the hot favourite, Sixties Icon holds strong claims.

He’s looked a class apart from most of his rivals when waltzing away with the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood last time, a race which is an acknowledged trial for the St Leger. Of the rest, the Mick Channon-trained Youmzain showed fine speed to land the Great Voltigeur Stakes at the Ebor meeting but that piece of form doesn’t looks as strong as the Goodwood success of Sixties Icon.

The Tote Portland Handicap on September 8 is the big handicap race of the truncated Leger fixture and could go the way of the Stuart Williams-trained Hogmaneigh, an easy winner at Sandown last time who could well take in this race en route to a crack at the Ayr Gold Cup later in the month. Anna Pavlova is also a name to look out for in the Park Hill Stakes, a Group race for fillies on the same day.

Over at Leopardstown on September 9 the Baileys Irish Champion Stakes takes place at Leopardstown, and is one of the better clashes of the generations run over a mile and half all season. This time around all eyes will be upon Dylan Thomas as he bids to put a dreadful effort in the Juddmonte International at York behind him over a course that he has won over previously.

The following week racing heads north of the border or the three fine days of the Ayr Western Meeting and the Ayr Gold Cup, the richest spring handicap in Europe is the feature on Saturday September 16.

This year’s race, which has been landed in four out of the past five seasons by trainer Dandy Nicholls, features not one runner from the Nicholls yard after an administrative error meant that no horse from the stable was entered for the great spring contest. The air must surely have turned the deepest blue above the Nicholls yard on the day this blunder was discovered.

Still northern trainers, who tend to do better in this race than their southern counterparts, will be gunning to secure the valuable prize once again with Stewards’ Cup hero, Borderlescott sure to be among the leading fancies while Kevin Ryan’s Mutamared holds good claims and Ian Semple’s Scottish raider, Appalachian Trail is another for the short-list. Remember too that is a poor race for three-year-olds who often struggle in the large fields against their more experienced and older rivals.

Over at Newbury on the same day as the Ayr Gold Cup there’s the always informative and influential Cambridgeshire trial in the shape of the £100,000 John Smith’s Handicap which is required viewing for any prospective Cambridgeshire backers. Last year’s winner of the latter race, Blue Monday, was just touched off at Newbury and this year’s race may again supply the winner of the first leg of the autumn double.

On a cracking day’s racing Leopardstown also stages the Irish St Leger, the only classic run outside of Britain this month and this should provide the fast-improving stayer Yeats with a golden opportunity to add to his Ascot and Goodwood Cup successes. It’s had to see any horse being god enough to lower this one’s colours.

On September 23 it’s the chance for the top milers to strut their stuff in the Group1 Queen Elizabeth 11 Stakes at the newly re-vamped Ascot. George Washington’s eclipse at the hands of the workmanlike Caradak in a muddling Celebration Mile at Goodwood represented the low point of three-year-old fortunes against the older horses and it will Be interesting to see whether the 2,000 Guineas hero can come good again in the Ascot showpiece.

This year’s classic generation has been wretched in competition with their elders and the Godolphin team will be hopeful of landing a fourth Queen Elizabeth Stakes in the past decade with their fast-improving Deauville winner, Librettist. A multiple winner this season, he should again go well now that he’s shown he can cut it at the top level.

Newmarket is the final port of call in September for three days of the Cambridgeshire meeting on the Rowley Mile. Those keen to glean further Classic clues for 2007 will be hoping that Jeremy Noseda’s star filly Sander Camillo turns up for the Cheveley Park Stakes for two-year-old fillies on September 28 while a day later the Prix Morny winner Dutch Art might will most likely be in action with the juvenile colts for the Middle Park Stakes. Whatever the final nature of the fields for races, the outcome of both contests could well have a significant bearing upon next season’s spring Classics.

A cracking months’ racing comes to an exiting close with the totesport Cambridgeshire on September 30 and there can be no better handicap run all season than this one mile and a furlong contest. Recent York winner Smart Enough looks a likely sort as does his fellow three-year-old Sir Gerard while of the older generation Fairmile makes plenty of appeal after a luckless defeat at Haydock in August.

Cricket Hall of Fame Inducts First Female

In the fall of 2005, the Cricket Hall of Fame held it’s annual Induction Ceremony, which included the recognition of Barbados native Barbara P. Lindo. Best known for her work in the community of Hartford and other outstanding contributions to the sport of cricket, Lindo became the first woman to be inducted in the Cricket Hall of Fame. In addition, this honor will also mark the first occasion that a husband and wife team will be in the Cricket Hall of Fame. Lindo’s husband, Cyrus, was an earlier inductee.

The location for the historical ceremony was the Marriott Hotel, Adriaen’s Landing in downtown Hartford. On October 1, 2005, an impressive list of former international cricket stars were inducted in addition to Lindo. Among them, the former West Indies fast bowler, Andy Roberts and Indian leg-spinner Bhagwat Chandrasekhar. Roberts is known for being a very intelligent cricketer and, during one point in his career, set the then-record for being the quickest cricketer as he took less than two and a half years to reach 100 Test wickets. Chandrasekhar, on the other hand, remains India’s largest match winner overseas with 42 wickets in only five tests. Unpredictable at times, it is said that no other cricketer was more likely to deliver an unplayable ball. In addition, popular West Indian cricket journalist Tony Becca joined the hall. Becca recently retired as Sports Editor for the Gleaner newspaper and is one of the most celebrated writers in the Carribean region.

Two other cricket personalities, Alvin “Al” Watson of Hartford/Florida and Carlyle Miller of New York was also inducted for outstanding contributions to the sport of cricket in the United States.

In every sport, just as with cricket, the Hall of Fame serves as a permanent structure used to celebrate the accomplishments of the sport’s most outstanding players and contributors. Often a popular tourist attraction, Halls of Fame are known for both their historic value, many photo opportunities and a place for fans to gather as their favorite cricket legends are forever inducted into history.

As females continue their increasing participation in sports and in history, Barbara P. Lindo achieved yet another milestone in the world of cricket and history in general. Her induction marks a precedent that will be set for other women who need encouragement and will find that in Lindo’s accomplishments and recognition.

Each year, the Cricket Hall of Fame works diligently in order to provide a program that is both reach in quality and in entertainment. Supporters are certain to once again be treated to a program filled with excitement, entertainment and enlightenment. Anyone interested in attending this year’s Induction Ceremony or for questions regarding the organization are urged to contact the Cricket Hall of Fame at 860-246-5400. Fans and supporters are invited to call with their questions regarding the Cricket Hall of Fame, it’s induction process or ticket information for upcoming events. Additionally, any events that take place throughout the year will be accessible by calling the telephone number noted above.

The Fascinating History of Volleyball

It’s a sport with that uses terms such as “joust” “decoy” and “kill” although it was originally devised to be played by businessmen to give them less physical contact and be more suited to their sedate lifestyle.

Volleyball was invented by William Morgan, a YMCA instructor, and the very first game was played on July 7th, 1896. Morgan combined elements of other established sports, such as baseball and basketball.

The net was based on the net used in tennis – although raised to a height of just over 6 feet. A few years later, the sport had its own ball – and its own name, as an observer noticed that many shots were volleys.

During the early part of the 20th century, volleyball spread quickly through not only the US, but parts of Asia, South America and the Caribbean. In 1916 the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) helped to promote the sport further and define the rules.

The first YMCA championships were held in New York in 1922 and a few years later, the sport came under the control of the newly-formed US Volleyball Association.

In 1949, the first Volleyball world championships were held in Prague, and were won by Russia – at that time, European countries dominated the sport. During the same year volleyball became more widespread and popular at colleges and in 1955, volleyball was first played at the Pan American Games.

Another milestone in the sport was achieved in 1957, when it was decided to designate volleyball as an Olympic sport. The Tokyo Olympics in 1964 were the first games to feature volleyball and the ball used was made from leather paneling over a rubber carcass.

The first gold medal was won by the host country although since its introduction as an Olympic sport, Russia has won the most medals. It would be another 20 years until the US won Olympic medals for the sport – Gold and Silver at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

In addition to the standard game, there is even sitting volleyball, for the disabled. And beach volleyball – popular for many years - is now a recognized sport, having made its Olympic debut at the 1996 games.

Today, volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world. It’s played regularly by an estimated 800 million people worldwide – ranking second only to soccer - including almost 50 million people in the US alone.

Online Football Click And Shoot Right On Your Desktop

For real sports fans, things have never looked better, with numerous resources available all over the internet. Firstly, I can tell you that during my days I threw the old pigskin around quite a bit, and the only thing that is more fun than the online football games that are currently available is the real thing, and that is the fact! My all-time favorite online football games, are actually the flash games that is if I only have a few minutes, as cheesy and unrealistic as these can be. However there is one in particular that I love, where you get to be the quarter back, and you have to toss the ball through as many targets as you possibly can in just two minutes before you run out of time. On one hand this is only a basic target game, but the online football setting makes it really appealing to me in a way that, say, a shoot em up never would.

For sure there is more to football online than just flash games, although the flash games are simply fantastic. Of course, there is a chance to order real football games online, or to play fantasy football over the internet.

Even though the best fantasy football experience is either when you are at your workplace where all of your friends will get in it with you, or if you don’t have a workplace where people are into it, then your next best bet would be online football. The joys that online football has given me is indescribable, however the best part of it all is that I am able to interact with friends all around the world. These are true and lasting friendships, and surely ones that I would not have been able to make if not for online football games.

There definitely are several other online football resources to use, and more conventional and informative ones at that. You can find all the sports statistics you possibly want, in addition there are biographies and news releases available on the internet, and that is not all. Just incase you miss the game, you can get scores and play by play breakdowns and analysis of the whole game and even an analysis of what the best prospects of each team are, all from online football sports programs and blogs. Even though we would all rather just get the chance to watch the game, when this is not an option, online football is usually the next best thing, I’m sure you will agree.

Cycling in Virginia Long distance Newport News to Washington DC

When starting from Newport News it is about 15 miles to the Yorktown Toll Bridge heading up Highway 17 and 100 miles to Fredericksburg then if you take Highway 1 into Washington it is another 45 miles to the bridge into Washington DC. Another way to go is to take Highway 17 from Yorktown Toll Bridge 80 miles to Highway 301 and cross into Maryland to Highway 5 and from there, well all roads lead to Washington DC as they say?

The roads in Virginia are not so bad and yet Highway One needs some work, watch those bike rims if you are traveling over 20 mph in places, you have to wonder what our tax dollars go for these days? The roads in some parts of Washington DC some would perhaps disagree with you if you called them; Actual Roads. As for traffic, I prefer to do this ride on a weekday if you have the luxury, less traffic. In Washington DC I prefer the weekends although traffic always is a bear.

The best part about this route is that there are a lot of fellow cyclists at all points and if you have a major problem, catastrophe or second flat tire with no additional tube, getting a ride is fairly easy. Folks in Virginia are pretty nice and if you take the Maryland road as your last leg, most are fairly nice too, although fewer of them are driving pickups. There are many good stops along the way and it is a route you will enjoy and see something new each time. Explore it and consider this in 2006.

Black Sunday

I guess we should be used to this by now.

For the third time in the last five years, Donovan McNabb will miss at least the last six games of the regular season, after tearing his ACL in Sunday’s 31-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans at Lincoln Financial Field.

The injury occured on a seemingly innocuous play at the start of the second quarter, as McNabb rolled to his right and tried to complete a pass as he was scrambling out of bounds along the Tennessee sideline.

McNabb, unable to put any weight on his right knee, was carted off the field and is expected to miss anywhere from 8-12 months, obliterating not only the rest of the 2006 season, but also leaving his 2007 season in doubt.

In other words, Eagles fans’ worst nightmare has come true. Again. The one player the Eagles could not afford to lose has been lost for the rest of the season.

It is a nasty bit of deja vu.

In 2002, McNabb missed the last six games of that campaign after he broke his foot against the Arizona Cardinals on a damp, rainy day at the Vet. In 2005, McNabb struggled all year with a hernia until he was finally forced to sit out the rest of the season after injuring it to the point he could no longer play against the Cowboys in Week 10.

Now this. Oh, and let’s not forget about his injury against the Carolina Panthers in the first half of the Birds’ 2003 NFC Championship Game, which knocked him out of that contest.

What makes losing McNabb so difficult is that there is absolutely no back-up plan. Donovan is asked to do more for his team than any other quarterback in the NFL. He does not have the talent that the Peyton Mannings and the Carson Palmers of the world have and he does not have a coaching staff that understands the importance of establishing a running game.

The Eagles expect Donovan McNabb to be their all and everything. They put all of their eggs in his basket, give him marginally talented receivers and continually fail to establish an identity running the ball. And that philosophy works, as long as Donovan is healthy and whipping the ball around the Linc like he’s capable of.

Unfortunately, that plan backfires tremendously when your all and everything is lost for the year.

Because the Eagles have refused to pay any attention to the running game, have no Pro Bowlers at the receiver position, and sport a defense that is as dependable as an Anna Nicole Smith babysitting service, they have screwed themselves.

The only way the Philadelphia Eagles can be successful is if Donovan McNabb is running the show. And now, he won’t be. Maybe not for a long time.

The answer at back-up QB? Jeff Garcia, who went 26-48 (48 passing attempts???) for 189 yards and a touchdown, but had serious trouble moving the Eagles anywhere on Sunday.

Did it look to anyone else like Garcia hadn’t seen the practice field at all this season? He has been practicing with the team, all season, hasn’t he? Is it too much to ask your back-up QB to step in and at least be marginally competent against a 2-7 defense?

As for the Birds and their prospects here in 2006, you can kiss the playoffs goodbye. It was asking a lot of the Birds to run off a 6-2 second half with their murderous schedule and a healthy Donovan McNabb. But now they’ve lost to the previously 2-7 Titans at home, and asking them to go 5-1 in their last six (@ Indy, CAR, @ Wash, @ NY Giants, @ Dal., ATL) with a back-up QB, no running game, a bad defense and horrific playcalling is just idiotic.

It can’t be done. Not with Jeff Garcia or A.J. Feely at QB. Not with a receiving corps that drops passes as if the football has cancer on it. Not with a defense that misses way too many tackles and allows Travis Henry to run for 143 yards on it. Not with a coaching staff that continues to call for play-action passes on third-and-goal from the 1/2 yard-line. And not with a special teams unit that gives up a 90 yard punt return for a touchdown to PacMan Jones.

It ain’t happening, folks.

So, another season is wasted. The Birds’ 4-1 start, a distant memory. At 5-5, it would take a bona fide miracle for the Eagles to go 5-1 in their last six, up against a murderous schedule with a weak back-up QB, players who seem to have given up, and a coaching staff that can’t seem to get out of its own way.

With McNabb, maybe it could have been done. Without him, there’s no chance.

Perhaps the worst thing about McNabb’s injury is the label with which we must now be bestow on #5…

“Injury-prone.”

You can’t miss this many games this many years in a row without being labeled as “injury-prone” or “brittle.” You just cannot count on Donovan McNabb to ever give you a full 16 game season again.

He is a fantastic player, perhaps the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history. He is a man vastly underappreciated by the citizens of Philadelphia, but you have to wonder about how much longer his body can hold up.

Perhaps it’s time to invest a second or third-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft on a quarterback. Not someone to replace McNabb, because he should be the starter on this team until he retires or cannot play the game anymore, but someone who can be groomed to be a viable back-up.

Because at the rate he’s going, who knows how many years Donnie Mac has left? A torn ACL is no joke. While Carson Palmer has recovered from his ACL tear in the span of about eight months, Daunte Culpepper still feels pain in his knee and is sidelined probably for the rest of the year. There’s no telling how long #5 will take to heal from this.

We may not see a fully healthy Donovan McNabb again until the start of the 2008 season, if at all.

A scary thought in the middle of another lost season.

Ford Freestar Making Its Way after the Windstar

Replacing the Ford Windstar minivan in 2004, the Ford Motor Company introduced the Ford Freestar. This vehicle comes in five trim levels that includes the S, the SE, the Sport, the SEL, and the Limited. The Limited trim level uses chrome on its 16 inch wheels, door handles, and roof rack. The SEL trim level, on the other hand, receives bright and machine 16 inch wheels as well as redesigned front door panels.

Possibly because the Ford Freestar replaced the Ford Windstar in the company’s line up of vehicles, this new vehicle holds a very similar appearance to the latter. It sports a body-colored grille, a chrome grille and five spoke aluminum wheels. This vehicle can also seat up to a maximum of seven passengers. The bucket seats in the second row of the vehicle include a fold and tumble feature. The third row seats have the capability to fold flat on the floor so as to maximize and add up cargo and storage space. The power of the Ford Freestar comes from the 3.9 liter V6 engine that has the capacity to produce some 193 units of horsepower. They also come with a four speed automatic transmission system.

Behind the wheel, the driver of the Ford Freestar is given the feel of driving a truck. However, the V6 engine holds so much energy and the automatic transmission system performs just as well that the whole vehicle is able to yield prompt and smooth shifts. There is a moderate engine noise to be heard though. Overall, the vehicle is fairly easy to drive and is able to maneuver with ample agility. As for the ride, it is very much smooth on good surfaces. The seats could be quite short however, they offer essentially good support. There is also abundant front headroom and elbowroom.

The Ford Freestar comes with a couple of color choices for its exterior. The list includes vibrant white, Arizona beige, dark toreador red, spruce green, norsea blue, silver birch, and dark shadow gray. The features of this car include a six-way power driver seat, a six-way power passenger seat, heated seats for both the passenger and driver, air conditioning, a high capacity tri-zone climate control, an AM/FM stereo, a digital clock, a single CD player, an automatic speed sensitive volume control, a DVD entertainment system with the screen and player mounted on the ceiling, wireless headphones, rear seat audio controls, a tilt steering wheel, a rear window intermittent wiper and washer, a rear window defroster, speed control on the steering wheel, a temperature gauge, a tachometer, a low tire pressure warning, a digital clock, a day and night rearview mirror, and power heated mirrors.

Sports Is Passion

Destiny is what we wanted to be when we were young. Paulo Coelho, the famous Latin-American writer who is the author of "The Alchemist," made this statement through one of his book's characters. I know it is not the real meaning of the word, destiny, but somehow it pertains to another word, that is, passion. It is fascinating that passion is alive in the eyes of a child. I mean, would you believe if I told you that a child has a purer passion than an adult? Simply because a child knows what he really wants; whereas the adult knows what he wants, but he is not sure if it is good for him. The former knows that what he wants will give him happiness, while the latter would rather choose the one that is good for him but would not make him happy. I learned this from my father. He taught me everything. Ever since I was a child, he always tells me to "push, push, push!" He always wants me to give my best in everything, most especially in sports.

Taekwondo has been my sport since I was three years old. You don't believe it, do you? It is because of my father, who was a coach of a popular basketball team in our town. He is also a taekwondo aficionado. We also swim, golf, and ski together. That's kinda lot of sports, isn't it? Well, this is the main reason I love hunting for sports goods online, and I make sure that I know every discount shopping site on the Internet. Aside from discount shopping, I also love hunting for a discount hotel and discount cruises. Woohoo! Discount is a music to any shopper's ears, right girls? Anyway, I always hated it everytime I forgot my knee pads when I went to my training. My knees suffered because of it. What happened to me, one time, changed my life.

One day, I joined this sports competition in our town. Nope, I was not the only girl there. We were actually five girls in Taekwondo. This time, I did not forget to bring my knee pads since it was a competition and I knew I needed it. But when it was about my turn, I forgot to actually put them on. I know it was the most stupid act I have ever done because it fractured my knees. My ball joints were injured, and I was not able to finish the fight. Plus, the best news was I would not be able to go to training anymore. My life, then, turned dull and boring. The life and the vibrancy of my sporty life was gone, and so was my interest for living. I really wanted to go back to Taekwondo again, but my father wouldn't let me.

Today, I shop sports goods for my son. Well, what can we do? Like mother, like son. I love this particular site that auctions any sport good that a sports buff needs. I recently bid for a pair of knee pads for my son. Of course, I don't want him to follow my stupidity. My mom taught me how to love online discount shopping. It was because every time we shopped together, she spent painstaking hours before she could buy a single dress. It annoyed me to death. So, my friend suggested online shopping, and discount shopping came from my personal inclination to cheap yet exceptional goods. This Adidas knee pads that I plan to buy for my kid is really cheap. Its latest auction is for $9 only.

Online discount shopping is the most convenient way of saving our money and preventing varicose veins. I recommend online shopping for all strong women who rarely have time for herself. However, if you're going for an online shopping be sure that you go to a trusted site because a lot of online shopping sites display a good image of the product, but in reality it is retiring from work. I know that we all don't want to waste money for nothing. So aside from the discounted prices, ensure also the quality of the product you want to purchase.

Lastly, to all sports buff: if your passion is sports, then quit smoking! Well, if you can't quit it, at least reduce smoking habits. It lessens the endurance that you need in sports. My father couldn't quit smoking, so he is suffering from my mother's absence. No, he does not have lung cancer yet. My mom just decided to stay with me and leave my dad because he wouldn't quit his smoking habits.

Will Advancing Technology And Gas Prices Make Sports Cars Go Away

There are many sports car lovers who are afraid that they will soon go the way of the dinosaur because of high fuel prices and the advances in performance technology that is enabling family sedans to compete with sports cars in quickness. While it does seem that there has been somewhat of a decline in sports cars along with increased sales of SUVs some of the current developments tell me that the vehicles we love are not going to be around in large numbers but they will still be around.

Back in the day, muscle cars ruled in the performance realm and regular sedans and trucks couldn't keep up. SUVs didn't even exist. Now with the innovations in design and engine performance and the light weight materials being used automakers are getting superior results out of smaller engines. In addition normal production vehicles now handle as good as a race car.

Some of the other issues that are causing the decline in the numbers of sports cars seen on the road include comfort and affordability. Sports cars in the truest sense are not built for comfort, they are built for speed and long road trips are no fun. The larger cars of today that still offer a sporty ride give you the best of both worlds. As far as the affordability issue goes, it is quite simple most families are just unable to afford the expense of having a car just for fun. People these days have to make use of their cars on a daily basis as it has become cost prohibitive to keep one around just as a hobby or weekend car.

In the beginning cars were used as sport, for racing across country in rallies and contests. It wasn't until much later that they became mainstream everyday drivers.

Some good news for the high end sports car market is that there are several companies that are beginning production of hybrid or electric sports cars. Some of the top companies like Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Mitsubishi are working on bringing them to the open market.

The most promising one that I have seen as a true sports car in terms of performance and the fact that it is a two seater is the new totally electric roadster from Tesla Motors, a company backed by the founders of Google and Paypal. The car does 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds and it runs on laptop batteries!

Major League Soccer Then & Now

With it’s primary goal to be the world’s most competitive and prestigious soccer league, along with one of America’s premier sports and entertainment properties, Major League Soccer is a large part of worldwide soccer news and is making great strides toward accomplishing it’s objective. With 6 teams making up the Eastern Conference and an equal number featured in the Western Conference, Major League Soccer is going strong with 12 clubs in only it’s 11th season.

However, soccer news recalls that the league has made great achievements since it’s inception in 1993. It’s inaugural season began in 1995 and soccer news stirred around the new formation of teams, event locations and new players. In 1996, soccer news reported the League’s first player draft and spring training. As attendance continued to grow, ESPN began televising soccer news and popularity soared across the nation. During this year, more soccer news reports and members of the media began covering MLS events. Supporters turned out in large fashion to catch a glimpse of their favorite teams and players.

In 1998, Major League Soccer underwent it’s first expansion season, which meant big changes for the League. With the addition of two teams, which brought the club count from it’s original 10 to the 12, soccer news introduced the latest League members as Chicago and Miami. Both teams proved powerful during their first year as they advanced to the playoffs. The following year, in 1999, Columbus Crew Stadium officially opened as the first major league stadium in the United States that was constructed specifically for soccer. It’s presence paid off as thousands of fans packed the house to watch featured competitions.

In 2002, Major League Soccer removed 2 of their 12 clubs from the roster and once again returned to 10 teams. Tampa Bay and Miami were no longer League teams, but were replaced in 2004 with other expansion teams. Real Salt Lake and Club Deportivo Chivas USA joined the League and brought the club number back up to it’s current 12 teams.

The clubs of Major League Soccer consist of both domestic and international competitors. With such a diverse roster, players are constantly being featured in soccer news magazines, soccer news televised programs and interviews.

Today, Major League Soccer continues to gain in popularity in the United States and around the world. Cheering fans, exciting competitions and major soccer newscoverage are among the many indications that Major League Soccer is here to stay.

Beauty News Updates Determine What Type of Massage is Right for You

The following is information and news coming from the most recent publication of Medesthetics Magazine (November/December 2006 issue) that I feel is useful to those in the skin care profession as well as the public using skin care products.

Hydroquinone Alert

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is reversing its stance on hydroquinone. In September 2006, it issued notice of a proposed rule that would make it illegal to use the skin-bleaching drug in over-the-counter preparations.

The action is based on new data on the incidence of ochronosis (bluish black discoloration of tissue)caused by hydroquinone use and the potential carcinogenic risk from the drug. The FDA intends to consider all skin-bleaching drug products, whether currently marketed on a prescriptoin or OTC basis, as new drugs requiring an approved new drug application for continued marketing.

Baseball s Favorite Teams Los Angeles Lakers Part 2

As the Minneapolis Lakers, the team was dominate over the NBA and was recorded as the first basketball dynasty. The franchise won five championships in six years (running from 1949 to 1954, with the exception of 1951). The team moved to Los Angeles in 1960, where they continued to play future Hall-of-Famers, including Wilt Chamberlain. However, after this move, it seemed that the Boston Celtics arose as the dominate team, consistently thwarting the efforts of the Lakers to win the championships and beating them six times in eight years.

Finally, in 1972 under Coach Bill Sharman (who was named Coach of the Year), the team saw a record 33-game winning streak and finally won an NBA championship. After their victory, the bravado bust again. Even though the team recruited Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, they were unable to succeed in another championship win until Magic Johnson joined the team in 1979 (who won the Most Valuable Player Award that year as a rookie), defeating the Philadelphia 76ers.

Other shoe-in players for the Hall of Fame who have played for the Los Angeles Lakers include Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant (both obtained from the Orlando Magic in the 1996-97 off season). With their assistance, as well as that of Phil Jackson, it seemed that the Lakers had found a winning team again, and in 2002, they once again emerged from the finals victorious. The following summer, O’Neal demanded a trade due to personal conflicts with Bryant and joined the Miami Heat, thus breaking up the “dream team”.

In the 2004-05 season, though Bryant did his best to hold together a young team, the Lakers missed the playoffs for the first time in eleven years (it was the first time ever for Bryant). However, in the 2005-06 season, Phil Jackson returned to the game, and fans of the Lakers are optimistic.

A Look At Italy Soccer

Founded in 1898, the Italian Football League, also known as Italy soccer, is the highest football league in the country. Serie A, which began in 1929, is the top division of Italy Soccer and is primarily sponsored by Italian mobile phone company TIM. Prior to the inception of Serie A, Italy soccer was structured into regional groups. The championship title is commonly referred to as Scudetto, which means ‘small shield’ because the champions’ uniforms will feature a small coat of arms during the following season. After more than 100 years of play, Italy soccer is at the height of it’s popularity in both the eyes of the fans and in the media. As we know it today, Serie A is the most elite of all divisions in the Italian Football League. Other divisions include Serie B, Serie C1, Serie C2, Serie D and Eccellenza.

With an Italy soccer league consisting of 18, 18 or 20 teams, Serie A requires that each club play all other teams on two occasions, once at their home stadium and once at the home of their opponents. The first half of a traditional Italy soccer season consists of each team competing once against all of the other clubs. The second half of the season will consist of the same competitions in the same order, with the only difference being the location of the games.

When it comes to scoring, an Italy soccer team receives three points for a win, one point for a tie and no points for a loss. When it comes to tallying the points to see which club will be crowned as champion, teams are ranked according to their total points accumulated during the season. If two teams are found to have equal points at the conclusion of a season, those two teams will meet up in a one match playoff. The top four teams in the Serie A of Italy soccer will qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Like the area itself, Italy soccer is rich in history and in tradition. With so many years of successful play, the competitors have set a number of records. As of September 2006, three players hold the record for most appearances. These include Paolo Maldini, Gianluca Pagliuca and Dino Zoff. The current records held for the oldest player appearance include Marco Ballotta and Dino Zoff. During the 2005-06 season, A.S. Roma set the record for most consecutive wins with a total of 11 straight victories.

For additional information on Serie A and/or Italy soccer, fans may visit their official website at http://www.lega-calcio.it. Current standings, news, updates, photos, historical profiles and league news is available online and is offered primarily in the Italian language. A professional design with colorful appeal make this a very popular website among Italy soccer fans. Soccer, itself, remains a popular sport throughout the world and is celebrated in many different countries. With legions of fans worldwide, it appears that soccer players will be kicking high for many years to come.

Curling An Ice Sport With A Cool Curve

Curling, even though being recognized as an Olympic medal sport, is still unfamiliar to many. Just what is this sport and how is played? Simply put, curling is a sport that is played on ice where players slide granite rocks down the playing field. As the rocks travel, they have will often curve, or ‘curl,’ during play. This is why the sport is known as Curling.

This unique sport first came into existence on the frozen ponds and lakes of Northern Europe. During a Curling competition, two teams of four players will slide hefty granite rocks across a 130' x 15' sheet of ice. The rocks travel down the ice toward the center, which is similar to an archery format. The designated areas are painted just below the surface of the ice at both ends, which allows the rocks to be played back and forth during a series of competitions.

Each Curling game will consist of sixteen rocks being thrown and, following the conclusion, a score is tallied. Each team will score one point for each rock that is determined to be closest to the center. Very similar to the strategy of baseball, only one team can score during any given play. One of the most unique features of curling is the incorporation of sweeping. When a player sweeps the ice, they are essentially brushing it at a rapid pace in order to keep the rock moving. The process of sweeping helps to polish the ice and helps to promote a more distant, straight moving rock.

Curling is a popular sport that is actively played in over 20 countries, including North America, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. A large majority of curling players reside in the United States, Scotland and Canada. Mostly played indoors, curling is a popular sport for fans who prefer to be protected from mother nature while enjoying a sports event.

Even though many are still unfamiliar with curling as a sport, it’s awareness has increased since the 2002 Olympic games, which were held in Salt Lake City, Utah. Cable television covered the events worldwide and many sports enthusiasts were drawn to the unique aspect of curling. In fact, curling was also a popular sport in the recent 2006 Olympic Winter Games, which were held in Turin, Italy. For more information on curling as a sport, player biographies and how to get involved, athletes and fans may visit usacurling.org.

Minnesota Vikings Can They Make A Moral Turn-Around

The Minnesota Vikings have sadly excelled in something other than gaining a reputation for powerful play on the field: powerful misconduct off the field! For example, October 6th, 2005 is a day that reigns in infamy for Vikings fans. On that day Lake Minnetonka was the unlikely backdrop to a team party that involved lewd acts perpetrated by several players in front of a host of witnesses. The media loved this fodder and soon dubbed the incident the “Love Boat Scandal.”

In order to survive the firestorm that descended on the team in the aftermath of this public relations nightmare, team owner Zygi Wilf was quick to institute a 77-page Code of Conduct that all players had to sign off on. It is expected from each player to not only know the content of this Code, but to also abide by its rules and regulations to the very last letter. Unfortunately, this was not the only time that the Vikings made the headlines. On June 30th, 2005 Coach Mike Tice found himself in boiling hot water for scalping his Super Bowl tickets. The same held true for running back coach Dean Dalton and another coach named Rusty Tillman.

Still earlier that year, on April 21st to be exact, running back Onterrio Smith was caught at an airport with a device affectionately termed the “Whizzinator.” Its claim to fame is the promise to pass any urine test for controlled substances.

It is quite apparent that the Minnesota Vikings have suffered from a downward spiral of morals and discipline. Some anxious fans have been wondering if there is anything the team could do to make a moral turn-around. It appears that Zygi Wilf has had enough of the bad press and the players’ antics that seem to drag onto the playing field, and his choice of new head coach for the Vikings proves that he means business. The new head coach, Brad Childress, is well-known for his discipline and high moral code. It would appear that with this new man at the helm, the Minnesota Vikings have a good chance to mend their ways and clean up their tarnished reputation.
